Assistant Religious Director – Islamic Society of Orange County

Work Location: Islamic Society of Orange County, Garden Grove, CA
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and weekends as needed
Compensation: Very competitive compensation packet with benefits and paid time off.

Summary:

The Assistant Religious Director of ISOC will execute the religious and spiritual direction, guidance and promotion of the ISOC goals and mission within the intra-faith and inter-faith community. The Assistant Religious Director will work with Religious Director, Dr. Siddiqi as an advisor in building a solid Islamic foundation for spirituality, youth leadership, out-reach and community development.

Responsibilities:

RELIGIOUS (25% of time):

  • Supports the religious programming and activities of the Islamic Society of Orange County.
  • Leads some congregational prayers, performs weddings and Friday Khutbas as required.
  • Supports programming during the month of Ramadan and other important days of Islamic calendar as   required.

OUTREACH/COMMUNITY SUPPORT (25% of time)

  • Works on the development and deployment of regular and consistent community service projects with dedicated volunteers.
  • Participates in the community activities that further improve interfaith and public relations for Islam and Muslims.
  • Offers resources, guidance and counseling to families and youth as needed.

EDUCATIONAL (15% of time):

  • Assists the Programs Committee in the development and implementation of programs for youth and adults.
  • Collaborates with teachers and group leaders to provide support as needed (speaking, developing a curriculum, supervising trips, etc.).

YOUNG MUSLIMS (15% of time):

  • Works with the Youth Group Committee to develop programming and provide support to engage and service the needs of the Youth Group.
  • Supports lectures at MSA’s, or local high schools and colleges, in addition to on site programming.
  • Provide leadership and support to Youth Coordinator

ADMINISTRATIVE (15% of time):

  • Adheres to the Bylaws of the Islamic Society of Orange County, and the policies and procedures outlined in ISOC Employee Handbook.
  • Carries out any other administrative responsibilities as determined by the Religious Director.

SELF-DEVELOPMENT (5% of time):

  • Attends educational seminars, meetings, conferences, workshops, lectures or training as approved by the ISOC Board.
  • Spends personal time for additional self-development outside of work to demonstrate desire to advance the work at ISOC through research and producing materials for the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, Shari’ah, or Islamic Jurisprudence or related field from a recognized educational institution
  • Demonstrated 2 plus years of experience in religious leadership and/or as an Imam
  • Basic knowledge of counseling and therapy acquired through formal education
  • Good knowledge of Quran and tajweed. Memorization of the Quran preferred
  • Ability to teach and lead classrooms.
  • Strong English, Arabic, conversational Spanish (preferred) and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of social media and proficiency in MS Office
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in counseling required.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in management
  • Ability to interact with youth, diverse community and people of other faiths
  • Ability to spend 30+ hours per week on ISOC campus

Ramadan Coordinator – Islamic Society of Orange County

Dates:  May 1st – July 15th
Work Location: ISOC
Before Ramadan: 20-25 hrs/wk; During Ramadan: 40+ hrs/wk
Compensation:  Based on Experience

Summary:

Ramadan is primarily a volunteer and community based effort and a handful of staff play a critical role in ensuring smooth operations of all facets of Ramadan activities and programs.  ISOC is looking for a coordinator who can manage and facilitate the interactions and responsibilities between all of the volunteers, committees, board, and staff to ensure our community gets the most memorable Ramadan experience at ISOC

Responsibilities:

  • Engage students by using a variety of teaching strategies and methods
  • Teach subject material using approved curriculum and lesson plans
  • Prepare lesson plans in a thorough manner before class
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the age level you teach
  • Attend regular professional development seminars and staff trainings
  • Regularly attend a pre-approved Islamic education course
  • Maintain consistent communication with students, parents, and staff
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, parents, and staff

Qualifications:

  • Proven project management experience required
  • Experience with  documentation of processes using software or web-based collaboration tools  for ex. Salesforce, MavenLink, or GoogleApps
  • Excellent communication skills, delegate effectively, and keep teams and community members motivated
  • Ability to work under pressure and conflict resolution, public relations
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions from large volume of volunteers
  • Must be flexible with schedule
  • Prior Ramadan involvement/experience at ISOC is highly preferred

Substitute Teacher – Orange Crescent Montessori Preschool and Upper Grades

Work Location: Orange Crescent School, Garden Grove, CA
Work Hours: On call as needed between Monday – Friday, 7:30-am – 3:30 pm

Summary:

Performs duties of a teacher or teacher assistant to provide continuity of day-to-day responsibilities with students during the absence of the regular teacher or teacher assistant. Assignment may be in Toddler, Preschool or Pre-K classrooms, or Elementary and Middle school classrooms, depending upon need.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains quality interaction with the children to promote critical thinking and active learning.

Computer Teacher / IT Support – Orange Crescent School

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and documents appropriate lesson plans, based upon adopted curricula, to teach instructional objectives.
  • Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records. Monitors and assesses students’ academic progress.
  • Conducts conferences with students and parents.
  • Instruct students on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation and the hardware and the software built on those foundations.

Physical Education Teacher – Orange Crescent School

Summary: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual or team sports.
  • Supervises safety of pupils in out-of-classroom activities
  • Administers and records the President’s Fitness test throughout the school year.
  • Determine eligibility and order awards for participants.
  • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, health/nutrition, and fundamentals of body movement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children as in a physical education setting
  • Valid State Teacher Certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree with major or minor in Physical Education preferred
  • Ability to stand and teach PE outdoors for extended periods of time

Pre-School / Pre-K Lead Teacher – Orange Crescent Montessori School

Work Hours: Full Time Position, non-exempt, Monday – Friday, 7:30-am – 4:00 pm

Summary: The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The Pre-K Teacher is responsible for every child in class for his/her social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development. The Pre-K Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing the classroom curriculum. The Pre-K Teacher will be respectful of children and parents, and ensure positive and regular communication with parents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeps classroom, storage area, and bathrooms clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Prepares healthy snacks for the children and supervises them while they eat.
  • Conducts individual conferences with parents of each child at least twice yearly.
  • Attends at least 15 hours of continuing education seminars/workshops per school year.
  • Keeps Director informed in advance of program’s needs.
  • Reports to Director any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.

Sales Associate – GR8 Finds Thrift Store

Dates:  Month of Ramadan (June 6 to July 6)
Work Location: Islamic Society of Orange County, Garden Grove, CA
Work Hours: 8:30pm – Midnight, up to 21 hrs/week
Compensation:  Minimum hourly rate

Summary:  Ramadan help at ISOC’s GR8 Finds Store. Responsible for sales, organizing and keeping the store clean and presentable at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the store timely
  • Maintain neat image inside/outside of store and safety for customers
  • Organize and clean the store
  • Make sales
  • Sort and organize donations if needed
  • Collect and drop items into the donation bins
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Have excellent communication skills to professionally and politely interact with public.
  • Have basic math skills
  • Ability to lift and move around items that weigh up to 50 pounds

Ability to distinguish sellable products from unwanted items and determine price

Custodial Staff – Islamic Society of Orange County

Dates:  Month of Ramadan (June 4 to July 6)
Work Location: Islamic Society of Orange County, Garden Grove, CA
Work Hours: 5:00pm – Midnight

Summary:

During Ramadan, perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, well maintained, safe and secure environment to entire ISOC/OCS campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers as needed.
  • Write up and submit reports of any repairs or problems, or contact supervisor immediately
  • Make rounds at assigned locations to ensure facility is clean and presentable at all times
  • Process handy work such as change light bulbs, paint, tighten screws, power wash, and minor repairs
  • Evaluate, monitor, repair, and maintenance of facilities
  • Work closely with events staff to organize for occasions
  • Setup facilities for meetings, conferences, and events by moving furniture, equipment, supplies and tools
  • Assess the current condition of electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and other essential facilities and equipment.
  • Perform Inventory control, maintain adequate supplies and proper use of keys
  • Work closely with security to ensure safety measures for school and community.

Qualifications:

  • Must have custodial, maintenance or handyman experience
  • Ability to speak and understand basic English
  • Ability to use email and use calendar to schedule events
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and work with speed
  • Ability to move around and lift up heavy items
  • Ability to stand for long period of time

Youth Coordinator – Islamic Society of Orange County

Work Location: Islamic Society of Orange County, Garden Grove, CA
Work Hours: 20 hrs/week, Fridays 8 hrs & 12 hrs on weekends & weekdays
Compensation:  Depending on experience

Summary:

Youth Coordinator provides development, coordination and oversight of youth services, and builds a positive youth program. He or she must integrate recreational and artistic activities with educational and spiritual components and provide leadership to youth, including but not limited to tutoring and mentorship programs, community service, education and cultural programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Create an annual and monthly activities calendar
  • Develop balance of spiritual, educational and fun activities
  • Secure and maintain space for activities and discussions on and offsite
  • Ensure weekly youth programs are effective for all age groups
  • Utilize social media to announce activities and to invite youth
  • Develop volunteer schedules and assignments to help them carry out their specific duties and responsibilities
  • Establish your feedback/evaluation process per activity
  • Work with the high schools & College Youth Coordinators to ensure that the HS & College MSA clubs are receiving adequate assistance in planning and executing their own programs

Qualifications:

  • One to two years of experience coordinating youth activities with a large scale of youth
  • Must demonstrate project management skills
  • Must possess the ability to work directly with middle, high school and college students
  • Must be present at all major community programs
  • Excel under expectations of high performance and continual improvement
  • Ability to motivate and inspire youth
